The bear is the subject of many Northwest coast legends. It is an important family crest and as such is one of the most prevalent figures in art works, especially totem poles and button blankets.

The bear is a powerful spirit animal. It is respected for its size, strength and courage. It is also a symbol of wisdom in many Indigenous origin stories. Bears are teachers, guardians and healers.

This limited edition silk screen print titled "Grizzly Bear" by Peter Dawson was hand produced by the screen printing process. It is the only limited edition printing of this design. The artist has inspected and signed each copy in the edition. All trial copies of this edition have been destroyed and the printing stencils obliterated.
