Ravens In Nest is a serigraph by Doug Cranmer. This design illustrates just how differently the artist approached traditional Northwest coast art.

Looking at the piece, there is little evidence of classic Kwakwaka'wakw design elements. In fact, it seems that Cranmer is rebelling against tradition. There are circles where normally ovoids would appear, the ravens beaks are straight where they would normally be curved. Everything appears unbalanced and somewhat chaotic. Even the u-shapes are floating freely near the top in different directions, giving off the impression that this is the sound the young ravens are making, frenzied and quarreling for attention.

Please read the FAQ on Raven symbolism in Northwest coast art.

This serigraph is from an edition of two (2) printer's proofs. The regular edition consists of 80 signed and numbered prints.

This limited edition silk screen print titled "Ravens In Nest" by Doug Cranmer was hand produced by the screen printing process. It is the only limited edition printing of this design. The artist has inspected and signed each copy in the edition. All trial copies of this edition have been destroyed and the printing stencils obliterated.
