You Are My Sunshine depicts a mother otter and her cub. The design was inspired by Joe Wilson's sense of family and the bond that develops between parents and their offspring.

There are two species of Otters around Vancouver Island, where the artist is from. The River Otter and the Sea Otter. The latter spends most of its life in the water around kelp forests. Otters need the kelp for protection and for something to hold on to so they don't drift out to sea.

Otters are very social animals. The image of a mother lying on her back and playing with her pup, who is sitting on her belly, is a common sight. They can also be seen holding hands while they sleep. This is done so that they don't drift away from each other.

This serigraph is #1 from an edition of two (2) printer's proofs. The regular edition consists of 160 signed and numbered prints.

This limited edition silk screen print titled "You Are My Sunshine" by Joe Wilson was hand produced by the screen printing process. It is the only limited edition printing of this design. The artist has inspected and signed each copy in the edition. All trial copies of this edition have been destroyed and the printing stencils obliterated.
