Richard Shorty was a self-taught Indigenous artist from Whitehorse, Yukon, and a member of the Northern Tutchone and Kwanlin Dün First Nation. Born in 1959, he became known for blending traditional Northwest Coast Indigenous design with realistic animal imagery. He created paintings, limited edition prints, drums, and carvings for galleries and collectors across Canada and around the world.
Shorty passed away on February 7, 2024, at age 64, leaving a lasting legacy in Indigenous art and culture.
