Description
Kwa-Giulth Killer Whale is a limited edition art print by Alvin Child.
Killer whales, or orcas, hold deep cultural and spiritual significance in the art of the Kwakwaka’wakw (Kwa-Giulth) people. These marine apex predators are powerful symbols and feature prominently in visual storytelling through carvings, masks and paintings. To the Kwakwaka’wakw people, killer whales are the guardians of the sea. They symblize strength, family, unity, and harmony. Orcas travel in groups, or pods, displaying close family bonds and communal responsibility, values which Kwa-giulth society holds in high regard.
This limited edition silk screen print titled “Kwa-Giulth Killer Whale” by Alvin Child was hand produced by the screen-printing process. It is the only limited-edition printing of this design. The artist has inspected and signed each copy in the edition. The printer has destrooyed all trial copies and obliterated the printing stencils.
