Salmon Twins is a limited edition screen print by Eugene Hunt.

In Kwakwakaʼwakw tradition, salmon and twins share a sacred bond that embodies renewal, transformation, and the balance between the human and spirit worlds. The Kwakwakaʼwakw understand salmon as spiritual beings who willingly take the form of fish to offer themselves to people, expressing generosity and the enduring rhythm of life.

Twins, in turn, carry a powerful connection to these Salmon People. They are believed to hold unique spiritual gifts and possess the exclusive right to perform the Salmon Dance—a sacred ceremony that honours the salmon’s return and celebrates the community’s dependence on their life-giving presence.

This belief reveals a worldview in which nature and culture, human and animal, past and present all flow together as parts of one living whole.

Through the story of the Salmon Twins, the Kwakwakaʼwakw teach lessons of respect, gratitude, and responsibility toward the natural world. The legend reminds people to care for the life that surrounds them and to live in harmony with the forces that sustain their community.

Note that the artist signed this print in two places, suggesting that it can be hung in two different ways.
